About Flooded People UK

Flooded people at the centre of flood decisions.

We are a non-profit network launched in 2025 by flooded people, flood response specialists and advocates for housing rights and climate change.

Why we exist

Britain’s getting wetter and we’re not keeping up.

Climate change and bad development means there’s more and more flooding, and we’re not doing enough to protect homes, businesses, and communities. Protecting them is a vital investment for the future without which they can't thrive.

We work to evolve the UK's cross-party consensus on flooding. When change happens, whether after a flood or during a moment of planning, we want to be at the core of it.

01

Stop making it worse

Development in flood risk areas continues unabated and with few checks and balances. This puts would-be buyers at extreme risk and causes problems with run off. This undermines the trust and synergies needed to get a bigger plan off the ground. New developments in the highest risk bands should stop.

02

Fair funding and accountability

We need to fix the ‘externalities’ problem. Developers, oil & gas, and water companies who contribute to raising the risk. But the cost of managing it is borne by households and taxpayers. We need everyone to contribute to fix this.

03

A national standard of protection

We support the National Infrastructure Commission's recommendation to achieve a national standard of protection. This means a big plan to get shovels in the ground to keep people safe.

How we work

With people, not around them.

By experience

Lived knowledge counts

Flooded people are experts in what happened, what recovery takes and what needs to change.

From local to national

Patterns become power

We connect individual stories and local campaigns so shared problems are harder to ignore.

Towards action

Constructive and persistent

We make room for anger and care, then help turn both into practical, strategic action.
